Kreindler & Kreindler: Press Releases

Winter Flying Accident occurs near Mount Airy, North Carolina
February 1, 2008

The deaths of six people in the crash of a King Air C90 today near Mount Airy, North Carolina, are a tragic reminder of the challenges of winter flying.

"Aviation accidents are typically the result of multiple contributing factors, but at this time of year pilots have to stay on top of the environmental conditions. Today's tragic crash is a reminder that cold temperatures, low cloud ceilings, snow, sleet and ice present unique challenges and potential dangers. Moreover, fog and the resulting deterioration of visibility is a critical consideration on any approach," according to former King Air pilot and lawyer Brian Alexander.

"It is far too early to determine what happened today but you can be sure that the NTSB investigators will be examining the weather conditions. In addition, they will check the flight controls to determine continuity and examine the power plant and aircraft instruments to ensure they were in working order at the time of the crash," said attorney pilot Dan Rose.

Mr. Alexander and Mr. Rose are available to answer questions about the NTSB investigation and important air safety issues relating to the King Air and flying in winter weather conditions. Please contact us for more information or to arrange an interview.
