Air Safety Week Advocate of the Year Award: Kreindler & Kreindler LLP Is Proud To Sponsor Air Safety Week Safety Advocate Of The Year Award

Kreindler & Kreindler LLP is proud to sponsor Air Safety Week's Aviation Safety Advocate of the Year Award. Our firm remains committed to raising the standards of aviation safety and to assisting the victims of aviation disasters and their families through effective advocacy.

The following excerpt is from the April 5, 2004 edition of Air Safety Week:

Air Safety Week Aviation Advocate of the Year Award

John Goglia, member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), is the first recipient of the Air Safety Week Aviation Safety Advocate of the Year Award. The presentation was made at the 4th International Symposium on Aviation Emergencies here, where Goglia was a featured speaker.

In accepting the award, Goglia said, "We need to keep pushing for safety improvements."

Air Safety Week established the award to annually honor an individual who has made a significant and positive impact on aviation safety over the course of a number of years. The chosen individual has creatively overcome obstacles - bureaucratic, monetary, institutional, corporate — to materially advance air safety. In addition, the recipient's advocacy has enhanced public confidence in the safety of air travel.

The 2004 award was sponsored by Kreindler & Kreindler LLP, a noted New York-based aviation law firm. Brian J. Alexander, representing the firm at the March 30th presentation, declared, "There is no finer example" of safety advocacy than Goglia's work on the NTSB. Goglia's term expires this month. He has served on the board since 1995, a period of time that placed him at the epicenter of some of the most contentious and significant accident investigators in recent memory, including the 1994 crash of USAir Flight 427, the 1996 crashes of ValuJet Flight 592 and TWA Flight 800, the 2000 crashes of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 and Emery Worldwide Airlines Flight 17 and, more recently, the 2003 crash of Air Midwest Flight 5481, where Goglia was the on-scene NTSB member.

The plaque on the model's base features the theme of the safety advocate award, both for this first presentation and in years to come: "For showing that a high level of safety is not accidental." (Reprinted with permission Air Safety Week, April 5, 2004, Vol.18 No.14)
