A Russian airliner crashed on September 14, 2008 in the Urals, killing all 88 people on board. In-flight technical failure is suspected. The U.S. Boeing-737-500 was being flown by Aeroflot Nord, a branch of Aeroflot, Russia's national airline. It was on a flight from Moscow to Perm.
Reports indicate that the aircraft experienced an in-flight fire and that it lost radio contact with air traffic control during the approach to landing.
Initial reports indicate that there were twenty-seven foreigners on the flight, including one U.S. citizen. Under the international treaties governing liability in international aviation disasters the families of these passengers may have the right to bring actions against Aeroflot Nord in the United States, and recover full compensation as the Moscow to Perm flight was on a leg of an international trip.
All the families of passengers have the right to bring claims against Boeing in the U.S. if the investigation reveals a design or manufacturing problem caused the disaster.
